St. John’s is embracing the philosophy and values of culture change. We are on an exciting journey to transform our traditional, medical model nursing home into a place that genuinely reflects home.
The idea is to so thoroughly infuse the nursing home environment with normal life that the transition between the home and the outside world is seamless.
Culture change is “person centered” because it increases the person’s sense of control. Daily pleasures and personal rituals are more understood. Greater emphasis is put on relationships rather than tasks. “The person is put before the task”.
Culture change creates neighborhoods in the nursing home that creates a feeling of home where relationships can happen naturally.
